From childhood trips, to retirement rides rediscovering the open road, this upbeat tune traces a life in motion.

It’s a warm, story-driven reflection on how the road doesn’t just take us places — it helps shape who we become along the way.

I Love the Road

© Jim Molinelli

[verse]

Sitting in back, hearing the tires hum along the blacktop

Eating snacks, taking naps, with buildings and bridges as the backdrop

When we’d finally arrive, my boredom changed to revery!

Meals and laughter on family trips are my first road memory.

[verse]

The next thing I recall, while my road was just beginning,

It took me to scouts, to little league, and to swimming,

When I rode along on errands, the feeling was so neat,

The coolest thing of all was sitting up in the front seat.

[verse]

I remember how the road would take us on vacations.

It led the way to some amazing destinations.

Met The Mouse near the castle, saw an ocean and some cities,

Viewed an arch by a river, the snowy mountains were so pretty!

[Chorus]

The Road will take us where it will, and bring us to new places,

These experiences spur our growth, though some show on our faces.

Though the Road may twist and turn, It helps us learn to cope,

And until the day our travels cease, the Road delivers hope...

I love the Road... and... I love the journey!

[verse]

When my hands firt touched the wheel, the road became an open door,

It dropped me off at college... I never worked so hard before!

The road took me home for visits, and some home-cooked meals,

Since road trips now were on my dime, they became a bigger deal!

[verse]

To work to home, to work to home, the Road became familiar,

After the wedding, I had to learn to share The Road with her.

Our Trips were still great fun, but two votes chose destinations

The Road still took us back for family visits and celebrations.

[verse]

Next next thing I knew, I heard voices from the back seat

We introduced them to The Road, to make their lives complete

Our trips slowed down as life sped up, but we still stopped to cheer

As they got out at stops like college, marriage, and career.

[Chorus]

The Road will take us where it will, and bring us to new places,

These experiences spur our growth, though some show on our faces.

Though the Road may twist and turn, It helps us learn to cope,

And until the day our travels cease, the Road delivers hope...

I love the Road... and... I love the journey!

[verse]

We find ourselves alone again, we still love The Road we’re on,

We're checking off our bucket lists, while singing driving songs.

We try to stop to visit those we’ve met along the way

We’re so thankful for the Road we took, much more than we can say!

We love the road... and we love the journey!

[Chorus]

The Road will take us where it will, and bring us to new places,

These experiences spur our growth, though some show on our faces.

Though the Road may twist and turn, It helps us learn to cope,

And until the day our travels cease, the Road delivers hope.
