Our college days heard a million songs blare,
Cheap diner coffee and a thousand nights shared.
Just two driven kids with our heads in the clouds,
The best of friends in our small campus crowd.

[Verse 2]
We were both too driven to give love a whack.
Then graduation brought the pull of the tracks,
You took the West Coast, and I headed East,
With a clear-headed promise of friendship, at least.

[Verse 3]
Seven years of ambition, seven years on the climb,
Keeping up with each other through the passage of time.
Some long, rambling letters written late in the day
And hour-long phone calls three time zones away.

A wedding bell weekend brought the old crowd around,
Among our old friends, we just let our guards down.
We laughed, and we danced to their five-piece band,
But that kiss in the slow dance... that wasn't part of the plan.

We had plans in our heads, we had dreams to pursue,
We both followed those dreams as we let time accrue,
Though planning and dreaming is where it all began

We pulled up the anchors we’d staked in the ground,
Left jobs on both coasts, and two condos in town.
We cleared out new space for a life built to last,
On a bedrock of friendship we’d laid in our past.
