I Wish You Were Here

Some people just make life work better — the ones who laugh with us when the wheels fall off.

We all need a great friend who is with us through life's everyday SNAFUs.

Lyrics

I WISH YOU WERE HERE
© Jim Molinelli, Shawn Molinelli

[Verse 1]
Nine friends at the table, for a dinner in town,
Dispute how the rather large tab will break down.
She had salad, he had lobster, they ate steaks and fries,
When he says "split it nine ways", we all roll our eyes.
You always worked the bill out before our plates were clear...
I put my cash on the table, and I wish you were here.

[CHORUS]
We always found it funny when the wheels fell off,
We laughed 'til we cried... and then we scoffed!
Now with any big mess, that I try to clear...
I find myself saying "I wish you were here."

[Verse 2]
A twenty eight file queue has the laser printer stuck.
And with the IT guy sick, we're all out of luck,
The paper jam light flashed, then the toner cartridge blew,
It left a thick carbon crust on my pants and my shoe.
You're a print whisperer, you'd make this all disappear....
I shake my head in frustration, and I wish you were here.

[CHORUS]
We always found it funny when the wheels fell off,
We laughed 'til we cried... and then we scoffed!
Now with any big mess, that I try to clear...
I find myself saying "I wish you were here."

[Verse 3]
I’m back out on the circuit, yet another boring date,
This Tuesday night Romeo is all about real estate.
He has a pleasant smile, and can tell quite a tale,
But he's busy blowing smoke, so I just won't inhale.
You always saw through their spin, and their phony veneers...
You saved me so many times... God, I wish you were here.

[CHORUS]
We always found it funny when the wheels fell off,
We laughed 'til we cried... and then we scoffed!
Now with any big mess, that I try to clear...
I find myself saying "I wish you were here."

[Verse 4]
Thought I'd bring two glasses, and a bottle of white,
Tell you my new adventures, since last Sunday night.
A warm breeze sweeps the hill, and as the chickadees peep,
I touch your name in the granite, where you peacefully sleep.
The world still spins like crazy, but chaos disappears...
When I hear your soft voice say... "Don't worry, I'm here."
